L-Rhamnose
L-Rhamnose is a naturally occurring deoxy sugar with antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. This rare sugar has been researched for its ability to maintain healthy skin. Useful ingredient for dietary supplements, topical skincare, cosmeceuticals, and cosmetics. Sustainably produced from non-GMO Sophora Japonica, the Japanese Pagoda Tree.
Some of its benefits and uses in the cosmetics and skin care industries include:
Use as a skin conditioning agent: Rhamnose, especially L-rhamnose, is known to have good skin hydrating and moisturizing properties. It can help improve skin smoothness and suppleness when used in creams, lotions, and other skincare products.
Use as a thickening agent: Rhamnose polymers and derivatives can function as thickeners and viscosity modifiers in cosmetic formulations like shampoos, conditioners, and makeup products.
Use in anti-aging cosmetics: Some research suggests rhamnose may help stimulate collagen production and have antioxidant effects, making it useful in anti-aging skincare products.
Use in cleansing products: Rhamnose-containing surfactants can be used as mild cleansing agents in face washes, shower gels, etc.
As as a stabilizer: Rhamnose aids in stabilizing oil-in-water or water-in-oil emulsions used in many cosmetic creams and lotions.
Use as a fermentation source: Rhamnose is used as a carbon source for fermentation to produce certain biosurfactants and polymers that have applications as cosmetic ingredients.
